Urethane Dangers Revealed in $90 Billion Lawsuit

We have been noticing an increased interest in Aqua-Resin as a hard coating for rigid foam. We suspect the reason is this: A $90 billion lawsuit recently filed by the US government against the four major producers of isocyanates used in urethane production. This suit accuses these chemical companies of selling billions of dollars worth of harmful isocyanate chemicals, intentionally concealing their dangers to consumers.

Aqua-Resin hardcoats have been offered for years as a safe alternative to the isocyanate cured urethane coatings. Please contact us at info@aquaresin.com for more information.

Also, we want to thank Monona Rossol, President/founder of Arts, Crafts and Theater Safety Inc., for alerting us, and the rest of our community about the isocyanate issue.

New York Times: Government Says 2 Common Materials Pose Risk of Cancer

The New York Times recently published an insightful article on the risks associated with carcinogenic materials. At Aqua-Resin, we take pride in manufacturing fume-free, non-hazardous art supplies that support safer and more sustainable creative practices. We're proud to say that all of our products are free from formaldehyde and styrene.

“Government scientists listed formaldehyde as a carcinogen, and said it is found in worrisome quantities in plywood, particle board, mortuaries and hair salons. They also said that styrene, which is used in boats, bathtubs and in disposable foam plastic cups and plates, may cause cancer but is generally found in such low levels in consumer products that risks are low.

Frequent and intense exposures in manufacturing plants are far more worrisome than the intermittent contact that most consumers have, but government scientists said that consumers should still avoid contact with formaldehyde and styrene along with six other chemicals that were added Friday to the government's official Report on Carcinogens. Its release was delayed for years because of intense lobbying from the chemical industry, which disputed its findings.” (Harris, Government Says 2 Common Materials Pose Risk of Cancer)
